32 Jones Street, (off Bleecker Street, near Seventh Avenue),  New York, NY 10014

When Woody Allen and Al Pacino wanted to make movies featuring the timeless quality of Greenwich Village, they came to Vivaldi. Over the last thirty years, Vivaldi has been a haven for New Yorkers and creative people from the world over. However, it has always been a gathering place for musicians. It is, after all, named for the Italian composer, Antonio Vivaldi. With live music seven days a week, The Listening Room at Caffe Vivaldi has become New York’s premier spot for original music by uniquely creative singer-songwriters. 10/07/2014 – TIPPERARY SONG OF PEACE FINAL – 6.30 pm
Aherlow House Hotel, Glen of Aherlow, Co. Tipperary
I am SO pleased that my original song of peace Raise Our Voice has been selected as a finalist in the Tipperary International Song of Peace Contest 2014 as part of the annual Tipperary Peace Convention .
The name Tipperary, because of the song “It’s a long way to Tippeary” was traditionally associated with war. The founding committee of the Tipperary Peace Convention felt it was time that Tippeary should be known for peace. To this end the Tipperary Peace Convention was instituted with the aim to promote the concept of peace through music and discussion.  Each year the Tipperary Peace Convention nominates a person who has made a noteworthy contribution to peace making to receive the Tipperary Peace Award. Previous recipients of the award have included such inspiring recipients as Nelson Mandela and Malala Yousafzai.  Alongside the Tipperary Peace Award, the Tipperary Peace Convention, aware of having long been associated with  “It’s a long way to Tipperary” which itself is associated with the Theatre of War, felt it appropriate that the REAL Tipperary should stage and thereby promote the concept of peace through the Tipperary Peace Song Contest.  Each year, ten finalist songs are selected from among all of the entries for live presentation in the Simon Ryan Theatre at Tipperary’s Excel Centre.

Parliament Square, York, YO1
Good Food, Good Wine, Good Music, all with a little added French “Je ne said quoi” flavour – now there’s a combination I can’t resist!  So it is truly going to be a PLEASURE to play on the live music stage at the York Food and Drink Festival which takes place from the 20th to the 29th June 2014.  To celebrate the arrival of the #TourdeFrance cycling race,   ‘Yorkshire Produce – French Flavour’ will be the theme of the festival, tempting visitors to experience a fusion of Yorkshire and French cuisine and celebrating York’s links with France; York’s twin city Dijon famously known for its mustard is now an official city of Gastronomy in France.  What better way to tickle your tastebuds and sample some culture than tasting some of France and Yorkshire’s finest foods while listening to some great acoustic music!  The music will be in the festival’s market in its usual space in Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square and there will be a bar and a highly varied programme every day. There’s a Real Ale Bar (Eee by gum) and Champagne tent (O la la!) and the music goes on until 9pm.  There is a load of great people on the live music programme (see link below) and I am delighted to be included among them, playing on the first Saturday of the festival (21st) at 5 pm.  MANGEONS, BUVONS, CHANTONS! 08/03/2014 – PAN CELTIC IRISH NATIONAL SONG CONTEST FINAL – 7.30 pm
George Bernard Shaw Theatre,  Seven Oaks Hotel, Athy Road, Carlow
I’m delighted that a recently composed song of mine has been selected as a Finalist in the Pan Celtic Irish National Song Contest for 2014.  The contest is to select a song to represent Ireland at the Pan Celtic International Song Contest 2014 alongside songs from other Celtic nations (Wales, Scotland, Brittany, Cornwall, The Isle of Man) – a kind of Celtic Language Eurovision 🙂
Some may remember that last year I was a finalist in this contest with my original party song in the Irish Gaelic language entitled “Havin’ The Craic”.  I am delighted to be selected again this year from an even larger number of submissions with a new song of a completely different ilk – a gentle sweet lullaby entitled “Suantraí Donnacha” which means “Donnacha’s Lullaby”.  Donnacha is a Gaelic name which means “brave warrior” and the song is dedicated to a very young smiling Irish boy who brings laughter wherever he goes!
I will be singing in the Final in Carlow on Saturday 8th March 2014.   If anyone would like to hear the song ye can listen to the Irish Gaelic version entitled “Suantraí Donnacha” at
www.soundcloud.com/paularyan/suantrai-donnacha
A version in English entitled “Donnacha’s Lullaby” can be heard at
www.soundcloud.com/paularyan/donnachaslullaby
I just hope I can do justice to the song on the night!

The first festival, sponsored by Oxfam, opened in March 2003, and lasted 5 days.  Award-winning director Jean Chamoun joined the second festival for the world premiere of his film ‘Women Beyond Borders.’  This also included an additional satellite film festival, held in Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2004.  Former Beirut hostage John McCarthy attended the third festival. Tuzla once again hosted a satellite Human Rights Film Festival in addition to Jersey which was organised by a former student. Film highlights included ‘Kids behind bars’, ‘S21: The Khmer Rouge killing Machine’ and ‘Ghosts of Attica’.  Legendary musician Annie Lennox presented the Oscar nominated South African film ‘Yesterday’ at the 2006 festival drawing the largest audience to date.

14/08/2012YORK MYSTERY PLAYS 2012 – 6pm
Museum Gardens, Museum Street, York
The medieval cycle of York Mystery Plays has been performed by the people of York across the centuries and is a world-famous part of the city’s cultural heritage. From Creation to the Last Judgment, these plays form one of the greatest stories ever told. In summer 2012 the story of God, of man and woman and of the cosmic struggle between good and evil will be presented on an epic scale against the magnificent backdrop of St Mary’s Abbey. For the first time since 1988 in a production of this size, the Plays will return to York Museum Gardens, where a 1400-seat covered theatre will be constructed within the ancient walls of the Abbey. The cast will be led by Ferdinand Kingsley, playing God and Jesus, and former Coronation Street villain Graeme Hawley (who played John Stape) as the Devil.
I am delighted to be invited to be part of this amazing event by providing the pre-show entertainment.  To suitably celebrate the occasion, as part of my performance, I will include my own specially composed musical tribute to the city of York entitled “Ode to Ebor”.  Have a look and listen at:
